Municipal Sewage Biosolids (MSB) are the biologically treated, quality controlled, by-products of the municipal sewage treatment process. Wastewater from residential and industrial sources are treated at approved municipal wastewater treatment plants. Wastewater is treated through stabilization and is usually accomplished by subjecting wastewater solids to anaerobic and/or aerobic digestion. Stabilization decomposes the solids, reduces odours and destroys most of the pathogens in the material. MSB are managed either through landfill (disposal), incineration (burning), further processing such as lime stabilization or pelletization or applying the material directly on agricultural or industrial land for beneficial reuse. Each option is chosen based on client needs and regulatory requirements.
